Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is therapy like having someone just nod and say, “How does that make you feel?”
Not here. While feelings are important, therapy with me is an active process. Think of it as a conversation where we dig into patterns, challenge ideas, and explore what actually helps you move forward. Yes, feelings will come up, but so will strategies, insights, and probably a few unexpected “aha” moments.
2. Do I need to have a major crisis to start therapy?
Absolutely not. Therapy isn’t just for “big life crises.” In fact, it can be most effective when you're feeling "fine" but sense there’s more beneath the surface. Think of it like going to the gym—you don’t wait until you’re out of shape to start; you go to maintain and improve.
3. How do I know if therapy is working?
Good question. Therapy isn’t always about feeling better immediately—sometimes, it’s about thinking differently, noticing shifts in your reactions, or making choices that align with your values. If you find yourself approaching situations with new perspectives or feeling less stuck, that’s progress.
4. What if I don’t know what to talk about in a session?
That’s okay—showing up is the hardest part. Some sessions start with, “I have no idea what to talk about,” and end with meaningful breakthroughs. I’ll guide the process if you’re feeling stuck.
5. Will you give me advice?
Not in the traditional “do this, not that” way. My role isn’t to tell you what to do but to help you understand yourself better, so your decisions feel authentic to you. That said, I might challenge your thinking or offer observations that help clarify things.
6. Can we just focus on the present? I don’t really want to dig into my past.
We can absolutely focus on the presenheret. However, if patterns from the past are influencing your current experiences, we might touch on them—not to dwell, but to understand and shift what’s holding you back.
7. How long will therapy take?
There’s no set timeline. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others prefer ongoing support. We’ll regularly check in to see how you’re feeling about the process and adjust as needed.
8. Do you have a magic formula to fix everything?
If only! Therapy isn’t magic, but it can feel transformative when you commit to the work. It’s more like planting seeds: with time, attention, and effort, growth happens.
9. What if therapy makes me feel worse?
It’s normal to feel a bit off after unpacking tough stuff. Think of it like muscle soreness after a workout—you’re stretching emotional muscles. If things feel overwhelming, we’ll adjust the pace and approach.
10. Why should I work with you instead of another therapist?
Therapy is personal. My style is collaborative, direct, and grounded in authenticity. If you’re looking for someone who will sit silently and nod, that’s not me. But if you want someone who listens deeply, challenges you thoughtfully, and helps you make real changes, we might be a good fit.
